Hemp is quickly being recognized as one of the most popular crops that the earth provides. It is one of those plants that may be cultivated in different situations and soils. When it comes the cultivation hemp crops, you will quickly realize the importance of water and a good schedule for your field. According to the research held at Colorado State University, industrial hemp requires 25-30 inches of rainfall during its growing season.

Irrigation systems are essential for hemp farmers. The CSU research also recognized that irrigated hemp fields produced 3-times more yield than other non-irrigated fields.

It is difficult to decide which irrigation system is best because it is considered as one of the most daunting tasks, especially for the newbie farmers.

In this article, we will point out different types of irrigation systems so that you will get better information about the hemp irrigation system.

Hemp irrigation system

Some of the most common types of irrigation systems are given below:

a) Center pivot irrigation system

The system is one of the most common and popular used systems. As the name suggests, the sprinkler system is rotates around the central point that is located at a field center. Square and circular-shaped fields are perfect for the system. Central pivots are fitted with the end gun that extends radius by the additional 100-feet. It is useful to reach the corners of the square fields.

b) Linear move systems:

The linear motion system is similar to the center pivot system. But instead of rotation around the central fulcrum, the system is moving across the field length laterally. The moving system is best suited for the rectangular fields having the length to width ratio is 2:1. It offers minimal slope. It usually requires a complex system of guidance that keeps it on the straight line.

c) Drip irrigation systems:

The system is an extremely popular and consistent irrigation system for hemp farmers today. The system is designed to maintain soil moisture during summer hot days. It provides constant slow dripping of the water to the plants. The row is lined properly with the polyethylene strips that dispense and carry water and pumped by a pump.

d) The traveling gun irrigation system:

The system used a giant water gun. The gun is mounted on the cart. The traveling gun can easily irrigate the radius ranges from 100 to 250 feet but because of the hose length, it requires high operating pressure.

e) Micro-sprinkler systems:

The function of the micro-sprinkler system is just common like a drip irrigation system. One of the biggest differences between both is that in micro-sprinkler water is sprayed over the small area instead of the discharge tubes of polyethylene, which some see as an advantage over drip irrigation.

Verdicts:

Many variables should be considered while selecting the best irrigation system for hemp. Some of these variables are field size, crop density, rainfall, shape, etc. Whether you are growing hemp for seed, CBD oil, or fiber, hemp can be very difficult to grow. In most instances, it requires high nutrients and water. So, it is important to consider the best system of irrigation for hemp.
